Weekend Events with Street Closures and Traffic Impacts - July 26-28

The following events that are scheduled for this weekend (July 26-28) are expected to have street closures and/or traffic impacts. 

Upcoming events with street closures:

Salsa Squared Dance Party. On Friday, July 26, the Harvard Square Business Association will host the 10th Annual Salsa Squared Dance Party at Brattle Plaza and Brattle Street between Eliot Street and Church Street. The road will be closed from 5-11 p.m. and the event will take place from 7-10 p.m.  Learn more.

Run To Home Base 5K & 9K. On Saturday, July 27, the Run To Home Base 5K and 9k will take place, starting in Boston and continuing across the Mass Ave Bridge to Vassar Street in Cambridge and along Memorial Drive between the Longfellow Bridge and Vassar Street. Expect rolling road closures between 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. along the route. Learn more

Found Cambridge Block Party. The weekly Found Cambridge FOUND Block Party will take place on Saturday, July 27, from 12-5 p.m. Columbia Street will be closed between Bishop Allen Drive & Main Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.


Ongoing event with
traffic impacts:

Red Line Closures Continue Through Sunday, July 28
The MBTA will close sections of the Red Line in Cambridge through Sunday, July 28, 2024. Expect delays while driving and taking public transit during this time. FREE shuttle buses will replace regular Red Line trains.  These dates and details are subject to change. Visit mbta.com/redline to learn more.

As part of this work, the MBTA will extend the closures from stations of the Red Line in Cambridge to JFK/UMass in Boston on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28. See details below for the weekend of July 27-July 28. 

Travelling Inbound/Southbound (to Boston) from Cambridge:

Route A) The Alewife-Park St shuttle will make all stops from Alewife to Park St (Alewife, Davis, Porter, Harvard, Central, Kendall, Charles, and Park St)

  • Transfer at Kendall to take the Harvard-JFK/UMass shuttle

  • This shuttle will turn around at Park St. To go further toward Ashmont/Braintree on the Red Line, take the Harvard-JFK/UMass shuttle from Kendall. 

 

Route B) The Harvard-JFK/UMass shuttle will follow a special route from Harvard to JFK/UMass. It will stop at Harvard, Central, Kendall, Charles/MGH, Haymarket, State, Downtown Crossing (Otis St at Summer St), South Station, Broadway, Andrew, and JFK/UMass.

  • This shuttle will not stop at Park St

  • This shuttle will stop close to Downtown Crossing (5-minute walk): 

  • Southbound (to JFK/UMass) stop: Otis St at Summer St

  • Riders will take Red Line trains from JFK/UMass toward Ashmont/Braintree

 

 


Travelling Outbound/Northbound (to Cambridge) from Boston:

Route A) The Alewife-Park St will make all stops from Park Street to Alewife. Coming from Boston, it will stop at Park St, Charles/MGH, Kendall, Central, Harvard, Porter, Davis, and Alewife.

Route B) The Harvard-JFK/UMass shuttle will follow a special route from Harvard to JFK/UMass. Coming from Boston, it will stop at JFK/UMass, Andrew, Broadway, South Station, Downtown Crossing (Federal St at Franklin St), State, Haymarket, Charles/MGH, Kendall, Central, and Harvard.

  • This shuttle will stop close to Downtown Crossing (5-minute walk):

  • Northbound (to Harvard) stop: Federal St at Franklin St

  • This shuttle will turn around at Harvard. To get to Porter, Davis, or Alewife, transfer at Kendall/MIT to the Alewife-Park St shuttle.
