Members Sought to Serve on Cambridge Family Policy Council. Application Deadline 8-21-23

Cambridge City Manager Yi-An Huang is seeking volunteers to serve on the Cambridge Family Policy Council. We are currently looking for a community-at-large representative or a representative from an active parents' group, or other group involved with children and their families. We are also seeking a representative from a state agency serving children, youth, and families.

About the Family Policy Council's Role

The Family Policy Council, officially known as the Coordinating Council for Children, Youth and Families is dedicated to developing policy and program recommendations aimed at ensuring all children, youth and their families have access to what they need to be successful, engaged residents who are prepared for life in our community and in the world.

Family Policy Council Membership and Expectations

 The Mayor of Cambridge serves as the Chair of the Family Policy Council, and membership is comprised of key stakeholders in local government and in the community, which includes the following:

• Elected Officials (City Councilor and School Committee Member)
• City Department Heads (Assistant City Manager for Human Services, Assistant City Manager for Finance, Chief Public Health Officer, Police Commissioner, Cambridge Public Library Director, Superintendent of Schools)
• Community Representatives (business, community-at-large, early childhood, school age, philanthropy, state agency, university, and youth representatives)

Preferred applicants are Cambridge residents who:

• Are knowledgeable about issues facing families and their children.
• Able to attend and willing to participate in all Family Policy Council meetings.
• Will advocate for policies and programs that address and center the needs and positive outcomes for children, youth, and families impacted the most by systematic barriers.

Meetings

The Family Policy Council meetings are on Thursdays from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Some meetings will be in-person, and some will be online via Zoom.
