If you go to the lower level of the Cambridge Public Library’s Main Branch (449 Cambridge St.) you’ll discover The Hive. Every Wednesday, The Hive buzzes with the energy of teenagers from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) as they tap into their creative potential. But The Hive isn't just for teens - it also has opportunities for adults and children to explore STEAM learning and skill-buildling. You can join a community sewing class or witness a nine-year-old recording their own construction podcast. As a matter of fact, the STEAM Rises podcast’s first episode was recorded in that same sound studio!
What sets The Hive apart from other makerspaces is that it offers free cutting-edge technology, including 3D printers and laser cutters, to anyone with a Minuteman library card. The Hive provides access to a space where individuals can bring their ideas to life, regardless of background or financial resources.
Access to The Hive is as simple as a visit to the Cambridge Public Library. Don't have a library card? No problem -- librarians will set you up, welcoming you into a space fueled by imagination and collaboration.
As The Hive continues to evolve, it hopes to become a beacon of creativity in the heart of Cambridge; a place where curiosity knows no bounds and where the seeds of innovation are nurtured to flourish. Come on by! View
