This faculty professional development workshop is for undergraduate biology faculty, high school biology teachers, as well as environmental educators who work with teens and adults. Participants in this workshop will learn practical tools for using art as a teaching tool in biology. Art-science can build STEM identity, reach all kinds of minds, and increase students’ observation skills, retention, and engagement. Skills and resources are tailored to align with the Vision & Change recommendations for biology education, the 4DEE framework for ecology education, and the Next Generation Science Standards for high school life science education.

Have you ever wanted to know more about the little insect critters that live in our local ecosystems? Join CPL Nature Club at Fresh Pond's Lusitania Meadow for a short walk in which we observe and learn about this dazzlingly diverse class of animals. We will meet outside of the Water Department at Fresh Pond. This program is open to all ages, from adults to children and their caregivers. Registration is required. We will adapt the fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel” and perform our masterpiece for family and friends. Using a Gif-o-Graf, we will blend stop motion animation and puppetry techniques. This three-week puppetry workshop is for youth ages 10-13. No experience necessary! Registration is required. Participants must attend all sessions and have read a version of the fairy tale before the first session. Stop by the Children’s Room to pick up a copy or call 617-349-4038.
