Trees planted as a result of a winning participatory budget project

The City of Cambridge is asking residents and local business for assistance in maintaining its healthy urban forest, which includes trees on streets, in parks, on private property, and campuses. Recent extreme heat and the current drought have significantly stressed many new and mature trees throughout the city. These trees provide essential shade, clean the air, and support a living ecosystem.

In honor of the upcoming Arbor Day, the Department of Public Works has released a new story map highlighting Our Favorite Trees.

In order to increase the long-term survival of newly planted trees, Public Works has improved pre-planting soil preparation, supervision of the planting process, and post-planting watering and other aftercare.

The Urban Forestry Division is responsible for implementing a program of arboriculture for over 19,000 of Cambridge's public trees.
