84 and 96 Bishop Allen Drive

The Community Development Department (CDD), in partnership with the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority, has drafted a Request for Information (RFI) for the potential redevelopment of 84 & 96 Bishop Allen Drive. The community identified a strong preference in the Central Square City Lots Study to see these two municipal parking lots transformed into a mixed-use development that includes:

  • a significant amount of affordable housing,
  • a permanent space for arts and culture activities similar to Starlight Square,
  • affordable commercial space,
  • open space, and
  • public parking.

The purpose of the RFI is to seek information that could inform future planning. This RFI does not commit the City to issue a subsequent Request for Proposals (RFP).

Thank you for your feedback!

Over the two week public review period we received numerous insightful comments, thoughts, and critiques on the draft 84 & 96 Bishop Allen Drive Request for Information (RFI). Your input has directly influenced the final form of the document, and these changes are outlined in this memo to the City Council. The resulting final RFI document can be accessed via the link below:

The RFI is intended to be formally released to the development community on August 8th, 2024. Respondents will have until October 4th, 2024 to respond. These responses will help inform the City's approach to future planning for 84 & 96 Bishop Allen Drive to ensure these municipal lots are reimagined to achieve the community goals identified in the Central Square City Lots Study.

Community Engagement

Project Schedule

Prior to releasing the Request for Information (RFI) to the developers, a draft of the document was shared with the public for a two-week public review period. The feedback received from community members and organizations has directly influenced the final version of the RFI.

After the responses to the RFI have been received and evaluated, the City will engage the community to ensure the public has a strong voice in defining the future vision for these sites. The results of this engagement and the information gathered from the RFI will form the basis for any subsequent Request for Proposals (RFP) that might be released. The graphic to the right depicts a generalized project schedule, which may adjust as the process moves forward.
