Cambridge Little Baseball Leagues Complete Series of First-Ever Citywide Baseball Clinics
CAMBRIDGE, MA (Wednesday, April 10, 2019)—The Cambridge Youth Baseball Committee successfully completed a free series of Citywide Baseball Clinics for area youth last month, capping off an initiative launched by Cambridge Mayor Marc C. McGovern and leadership representing the city’s four little baseball league divisions (Central, East, North, West).
Clinics were hosted at the CRLS Field House on the evenings of Saturday March 16, 23, and 30, for ages 7 to 12. Over 160 youth attended the clinics which focused on introducing skills and exercises to learn organized baseball, as well as providing an opportunity for Cambridge youth to meet new friends in the process. Several new players were successful in registering with their respective neighborhood leagues, representing an increase over previous years.
Volunteers for this event consisted of league coaches, parents, CRLS varsity baseball players and coaching staff, Cambridge baseball alumni, and members of the Mayor’s Office.
“The success of this collaborative effort is a true reflection of Cambridge’s core values. When we come together with a unified vision to grow quality opportunities for our youth, everybody wins,” Mayor McGovern said. The Mayor is a former coach, Central division president, and continues to sponsor Little League team across the City. “The future of baseball is bright in Cambridge and I feel privileged to have been a part of this. My hope is that the Citywide Baseball Clinics can become an annual tradition in Cambridge,” he continued.
“I want to thank Mayor McGovern and the Cambridge Youth Baseball Committee for providing these free high-quality baseball clinics to little leaguers in our city,” said Louis A. DePasquale. “I know that the youth in attendance will remember this experience for years to come, and I want to commend each and every volunteer who contributed to making these clinics such a huge success.”
The Cambridge Youth Baseball Committee has a common vision to promote fair play, unified messaging, and making baseball a fun learning experience across Cambridge’s four little baseball leagues.
Parents of children who are interested in participating in youth baseball this season (including those who didn’t attend the clinics) can still sign up to play, and are encouraged to reach out to Luis Vasquez, Director of Constituent Services for the Mayor, at lvasquez@cambridgema.gov.
