Bike Lane and Parking Changes Coming to a Small Section of Inman Square in Early Spring 2025

Starting in early April 2025, the City of Cambridge plans to install separated bike lanes from Prospect Street to Oak Street. The installation includes bike lanes along the curb, with a buffer and white flex posts separating cyclists from parked cars and general traffic.

What to Expect

  • Parking Adjustments: Parking spaces will be moved away from the curb, creating a "floating" parking setup. People parking will cross the bike lane to reach the sidewalk. The total number of parking spaces will be reduced slightly, from nine to eight. One metered space will be converted into a handicap-accessible spot.
  • Outdoor Dining Accommodations: Seasonal in-street dining will be accommodated, with more flexibility for other uses in the off-season.
  • Bike Lane Improvements: White flex posts will separate the bike lane from vehicle traffic, improving safety for cyclists and drivers.

Installation Timeline and Impact

The installation will take place over a short period of time in early April 2025 with minimal disruption.

  • Pavement markings will be applied overnight in a single night of work.
  • Flex-post installation will occur over the course of one day.
  • Temporary parking restrictions will be in effect, with no parking allowed overnight beginning at 8 p.m. People parking should follow all posted signs.

Once completed, the new layout will separate bike lanes from traffic and shift parking away from the curb, creating a safer and more efficient street design.
