Annual Housing Stock Update 2024

CDD has completed its annual update to the stock of affordable housing units in the city. There are now 8,931 affordable housing units in the city, a net increase of 340 affordable units from the 2023 total of 8,591 units.

This total includes affordable rental housing owned by the Cambridge Housing Authority, non-profit, and private affordable housing providers; inclusionary housing, both rental and homeownership; and all other affordable homeownership. Affordable housing units in this count are subject to long-term affordability restrictions to keep housing affordable to residents earning less than 120% of area median income, and were either under construction or complete as of June 30, 2024. Affordable housing units added since the 2023 report include affordable rental housing units now under construction at 52 New Steet (106 units), Jefferson Park Federal (103 new units), and 121 Broadway (102 affordable units).

CDD has also estimated the number of all housing units in the city at 58,170 units under construction or completed as of June 30, 2024. This is based on a recent review and revision of housing stock data that led to a lower count of total units included in prior counts. 637 housing units have been added since the 2023 total (57,894 in the June 30, 2023 count), which, with adjustments to prior year data, results in an increase of 276 units in the count total as of June 30, 2024.
