Smoke in the Area last evening and this morning, October 28th

Last night & early this morning, Cambridge fire companies, as well as fire companies in our metro area, responded to several "odor of smoke" calls due to the smoke from the brush fires in the North Shore area, including Salem, Saugus, Lynn, Peabody, etc.

The smoke has now dissipated.

During smoky atmospheric conditions due to area brush fires, residents with breathing issues & medical issues would be advised to keep windows closed until the air clears.

As always, for a fire, medical, or other emergency, call 911 right away or pull the nearest city fire alarm box.

The fire in the photograph below was from a major brush fire in Salem, Ma. (WCVB photo).

And please remember! Be extra cautious with ignition sources in this period of extremly dry weather.

Properly and safely dispose of smoking materials, including cigarettes.

Outisde burning (fire pits, chimineas, trash, vegetation, etc.) is never permitted in the city due to our densely built-up neighborhoods and the threat of rapid fire spread.
