Description
The Cambridge Commission on the Status of Women, along with Cambridge Public Schools, Cambridge Public Health Department, and the Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative, are sponsoring a talk for parents of tweens and teens with Dr. Gail Dines, Professor Emerita and founding president of Culture Reframed, an organization dedicated to working with parents/caregivers to build resilience and resistance in kids to hypersexualized online content.
In this workshop, parents will have a chance to talk about and learn:
- How scary it can be to raise kids when sexual images, including pornography, are hard to avoid
- The harmful effects of unrealistic and overly sexual images and content
- How to build resilience to harmful media messages and support healthier ideas about sexuality and relationships
- How pornography affects the brain and can lead to habituation and addiction
- Why your kids sometimes act in ways that drive you crazy
- Action steps and resources on how to support and guide your kids
