Description

Time: Meet at 9:00am

  • The ride starts promptly at 9:30 AM and lasts approximately 2 hours

Where: Cambridge Main Library/Joan Lorentz Park, 449 Broadway, Cambridge. The ride starts and ends here.

Check back here later for a map of the route.

Cambridge is a networked city. From early contributions to the development of the ethernet, the internet, and neural networks, the city is evolving to the highly developed state of providing a BICYCLE NETWORK! With the combination of the Cambridge Bicycle Plan and the Cycling Safety Ordinance, Cambridge is well on its way to installing a network of separated bicycle lanes that will allow people of all ages and abilities to safely travel by bike to all major points in the city. The future is here! The 2023 Spring Ride will take you past sites of internet and neural network history while utilizing portions of the bicycle network as a demonstration of what the full network will bring.

We will begin gathering outside the Cambridge Public Library Main Branch at 9:00 a.m. and depart promptly at 9:30 a.m. The ride will be escorted by the Cambridge Police Department's Bike Patrol and take about two hours, including a midway break.

The ride will go at a relaxed pace, but we ask that young children ride tandem with an adult (trailers, bike seats, tag-alongs, etc.).

Bike mechanics will be on hand before the ride to make quick safety checks. The mechanics will be making minor adjustments, like tire pressure, and emergency repairs only. Please make sure your bike is in reasonable working order before the ride. If you are interested in learning more about how to repair your own bike, check out these instructional videos posted online.

The ride will be cancelled in the case of heavy rain.

There is no registration or charge for the tour -- just show up and enjoy!

We are able to offer Bluebikes Adventure Passes, good for unlimited 2-hour rides on Saturday, May 20. If you are interested in an adventure pass, please email bluebikes@cambridgema.gov by Wednesday, May 17th
