The City of Cambridge Department of Veterans Services will hold a Patriots' Day Observance event on Monday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m., on the Cambridge Common, located outside of Harvard Square surrounded by Massachusetts Avenue, Garden Street and Waterhouse Street. The event will also include a sweet treat from Cookie Monstah, participation by the National Lancers, The Cambridge Police and Fire Auxiliary.
Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons and Vice Mayor Marc C. McGovern, Chair of the Human Services and Veterans Committee, will give the City’s greetings and welcoming remarks. Dale Kurtz, West Point Graduate and former Norfolk County VSO and Captain of the US Army, will give the keynote address at the observance event.
The event will also include a ceremonial reenactment by the National Lancers, of William Dawes’ historic horseback ride from Boston to Cambridge, then to Lexington, alerting the colonists of the British threat of 1775, and marking its 250th anniversary.
Additionally, in the coming months, as part of the Cambridge & MA250 campaign, the City of Cambridge will showcase stories that highlight historic themes of revolution and independence through a series of engaging events.
