The success of the Central Square Cultural District has brought increased evening activity to the Square and subsequently the demand for evening parking has grown. As a result, finding a parking space in the evening has become harder.
The City of Cambridge is increasing evening parking rates from $1.00 per hour to $2.00 per hour from 6-10 p.m. Users are still able to buy up to 4 hours of parking after 6 p.m. Pay stations accept credit cards. The MBTA’s new late night services and the increased parking price will encourage use of sustainable modes and improve turnover, making space available for those who must drive.
In 2012, the City of Cambridge extended the hours of operations in the five parking lots in Central Square to 10 p.m. as a way to offer additional evening parking to the patrons of Central Square. This improvement was a great success as evening activities grew. We continue to work on supporting that growth.
The changes to the five parking lots in Central Square will be effective on Aug. 6, 2014.
