The flu (short for "influenza") can be a serious illness. The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from influenza is to get a flu shot every year. A flu shot is recommended for all adults and children age 6 months and older. Flu vaccine is considered safe and effective for adults and children over 6 months.
The Cambridge Public Health Department will be offering free flu vaccine to people who live or work in Cambridge at sites throughout the city from Oct. 8 through Nov. 5.
The Public Health Department has scheduled five flu clinics for adults age 18 and older. At two of these clinics, children as young as 6 months can receive free flu vaccine. FluMist® will be available to healthy children age two and older.
While there is no charge to the public for flu shots, people with health insurance are encouraged to bring their cards with them to the clinics.
Flu vaccine is widely available this season. In addition to health department flu clinics and doctors’ offices, flu vaccine is also being offered at most Cambridge pharmacies and supermarket pharmacies.
