The Cambridge Veterans’ Organization and the City of Cambridge’s Department of Veterans’ Services will hold their annual Patriots' Day Observance Monday, Apr. 20, 10am, at Winthrop Park, corner of JFK and Mt Auburn Streets.
City Offices will be closed for the holiday and trash/recycling will be one day behind. Streets in odd-side F-district will be posted and cleaned on Wednesday, Apr. 29.
For the Veterans' Observance event, Philip Anderson, President, of the Cambridge Veterans' Organization will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Mayor David Maher will extend the City’s greetings and Chaplain Major General Douglas L. Carver, United States Army retired, will deliver the keynote address.
The event will be highlighted with a reenactment of Patriot William Dawes, Jr., historic horseback ride from Boston to Cambridge alerting the colonists of the British threat of 1775. Patriot Dawes, dressed in colonial garb, will deliver the alert to Mayor Maher followed by the blowing of TAPS by bugler, Robinson Pyle.
Evie Hartenstein, Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Drama student, will read the Governor’s Patriots’ Day Proclamation. CRLS music student, Douglas Appleman, will sing the National Anthem and God Bless America.
