On an 85 degree day, it only takes ten minutes for the inside of your car to reach 102 degrees, even when the windows have been left open an inch or two. When the temperature outside is a pleasant 70 degrees, the inside of your car may be as much as 20 degrees hotter.
The Cambridge Animal Commission recently had three separate incidents in which they had to remove dogs out of cars that had an inside temperature of 110 degrees. Our Animal Control Officers have a special type of heat gun that is very accurate at measuring the temperature of the inside of a car.
Shade offers little protection and moves with the sun. Please leave your dog home now that the temperature has gone
from 40 degrees to over 80 degrees. An errand that you thought would only be 5 minutes can easily change to 20 minutes. Your dog would “thank you” and not suffer from hyperthermia.
