The Cambridge Public Health Department has modified the algal bloom advisory to include only the area of the Charles River from Magazine Beach (near the BU Bridge) to the Museum of Science Dam, based on recommendations from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The recommendations were based on water samples collected and analyzed last week by state health officials and volunteers from the Charles River Watershed Association. State test results were as follows:

  • The second consecutive water sample collected by state health officials on Aug. 26 from the Weld Boathouse in Cambridge tested below the state guideline for cyanobacteria.
  • The sample collected on Aug. 26 from Community Boating, however, tested above the state guideline.
  • No microcystin toxin was detected in either sample.
