As part of its overall commitment to diversity and to continue to develop cultural competencies of the workforce, the City of Cambridge is requesting proposals to develop and deliver a sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) cultural competency training program. The program is intended to enhance the awareness, skills and effectiveness of employees, supervisors, and managers of City departments in regards to SOGI issues.
Consistent with other related trainings offered by the City, the overall goal is to build additional capacity in cultural competencies, emphasize the City’s commitments to inclusiveness within the diverse workforce; and advance human rights. More specific goals for this program are to provide sensitivity training on SOGI issues to City employees, as well as to remove barriers for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals.
Key objectives of the training are to identify key issues, including gender, stigma, inclusiveness, and equity of LGBTQ communities and ensure that City employees are: (1) familiar with SOGI concepts, terminology and issues, City policies regarding SOGI, and workplace expectations to value diversity; (2) prepared to facilitate engagement between City employees, key stakeholders, community-based organizations and residents; and (3) better able to identify opportunities to address SOGI issues in the delivery of City services.
This training will be offered to approximately 1,200 employees.
Interested vendors should submit a proposal to design and deliver the SOGI Cultural Competency Training as described in the RFP. The deadline to submit an RFP has been extended to September 29, 2016.
