Longfellow Bridge Steam Pipe Venting Process this Weekend

Longfellow Bridge
The Longfellow Bridge Project Team advises the community that  a steam pipe venting process (known as a 'steam blow') will be taking place beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug 27, and will continue until all dirt and debris is removed from the pipe.  The process will take 1-2 days. Please note that the steam blow process creates a cloud of ordinary steam and a low frequency rumbling sound.  The steam cloud may rise over 200 feet in the air and be visible for some distance, depending on the weather.

All vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle, and MBTA Red Line travel near the Charles Circle staging area will be halted for a short period of time at the beginning of the process, and police details will be present.

Traffic will be stopped during this period on Storrow Drive Eastbound, as well as on Longfellow Bridge.

For questions or concerns about the steam blow, please call the project hotline at 617-519-9892, or email the project team at longfellowbridge@state.ma.us.
