On Monday, January 30, the City of Cambridge entered into a Community Compact with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts during a signing ceremony with Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, Mayor E. Denise Simmons, and City Manager Louis A. DePasquale. The Community Compact Program provides funding to cities and towns to aid in their implementation of municipal best practices.
The City of Cambridge will receive financial assistance for the advancement of two municipal best practices over the next fiscal year. One best practice is the development and implementation of a Vision Zero outreach strategy, supporting the city’s commitment to ensure safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for all. The Community Compact will also provide funding for the development of a sustainability dashboard. This dashboard will track and communicate greenhouse gas and energy-use data in support of the city’s Net Zero Action Plan.
“The City of Cambridge is grateful to the Commonwealth for supporting our vision for a safer and more sustainable future,” said City Manager Louis A. DePasquale. “The funding that we receive through the Community Compact Program will enable us to make great strides in implementing our Vision Zero strategic plan and our commitment to combating climate change.”
The Community Compact Program was established in January 2015 to strengthen the partnership between the Commonwealth and local municipalities. The City of Cambridge’s participation in the Program increases eligibility for additional funding from the state.
