City Services and Holiday Closures for Christmas and New Year's Eve

City Hall Holiday Lights

Cambridge city offices, including all library locations and senior centers, will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25 in observance of the Christmas holidays and on Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year's Day.  The two senior centers will also be closed on Saturday, Dec. 22 and Saturday, Dec. 29. 

Please note that city offices, including all library locations and senior centers, will be closing early on Monday, Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. City offices will be open late on Thursday, Jan. 3 from 8:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. Library locations and senior centers will be open for their regular hours on Jan. 3, 2019.

Payments are not required at City of Cambridge parking meters and parking meter pay stations on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018 and Tuesday, Jan.1, 2019.

Trash, Recycling and Compost Collection Holiday Schedule
  • Regular curbside collection will take place on Monday, Dec. 24. There will be no curbside collection on Tuesday, Dec. 25. Collections will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.
  • Regular curbside collection will take place on Monday, Dec. 31, however there will be no curbside collection on Tuesday, Jan. 1. Collections will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.
  • The Recycling Drop-off Center will be open on Saturday, Dec. 22 and Saturday, Dec. 29. The Recycling Center will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 1. 
Holiday Tree Collection
  • Curbside collection of un-decorated Christmas trees (weather permitting), will begin the week of Dec.31. Trees will be collected on your regular curbside collection day.
  • Decorations and stands must be removed and trees should not be in a plastic bag. Residents can also bring bare trees to the Recycling Center during open hours beginning Thursday, Dec. 27.
  • If your holiday tree, trash, or recycling are missed, please let us know immediately by submitting a service request via the Commonwealth Connect app for iPhone and Android or at www.CambridgeMA.Gov/CommonwealthConnect.
Street Cleaning
  • Street cleaning will take place on Monday, Dec. 24. There will be no street cleaning on Tuesday, Dec. 25. 
  • Streets scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 25 will be swept on Monday, Dec. 31. 
  • Dec. 31, 2018 will be the last day of street cleaning for the winter season until services resume in April 2019. 
Cemetery

  • The Cambridge Cemetery gates will be open from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. throughout the holiday season. 
  • Cemetery and Public Works Administrative Offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25 in observance of the Christmas holidays and on Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year's Day.
