The MBTA has announced that the Green Line Lechmere station will be closed beginning Sunday, May 24, 2020. The MBTA Green Line Extension (GLX) project is currently constructing a new Lechmere station and busway across O'Brien Highway (Route 28) from today's Lechmere station.
For Green Line riders, a bus "bridge" from Lechmere station to North station will begin service on Sunday, May 24, 2020 until the MBTA begins running Green Line trains to the new Lechmere station. Bus "bridge" riders will benefit from bus-only lanes on Charles River Dam Road, Cragie Bridge, Martha Road and Nashua Street.
For current bus riders on Routes 69, 80, 87, and 88, bus berth locations and routing are not changing at the this time. Bus riders connecting to the Green Line will board a Green Line-replacement "bridge" bus beginning Sunday, May 24, 2020. Other bus riders are not expected to experience any major detours or changes at this time. All bus riders should be aware that walking routes to the busway at Lechmere, to the bus "bridge" stop, and to/from the street may change as construction progresses.
