On September 6, 2022, Yi-An Huang was sworn in as Cambridge’s City Manager. Mr. Huang is the first Asian American to serve as Cambridge City Manager.
“We are a city with such energy, diversity, and ambition – it’s an amazing honor to be in this position. Cambridge faces critical and complex challenges and has a broad set of priorities to address. As City Manager, I look forward to working with the City Council, staff, and the community to tackle these issues together and build upon the city’s successes,” said Yi-An Huang, Cambridge City Manager.
During July and August, Mr. Huang actively met with the Mayor, members of the City Council, and various internal and external stakeholders to discuss his transition, understand issues of importance to them, and begin to forge relationships.
“I am excited to work with City Manager Huang and look forward to collaborating with him in his new role,” said Sumbul Siddiqui, Cambridge Mayor.
The Cambridge City Council voted to hire Mr. Huang at a special City Council meeting held on Monday, June 6, and ratified his contract on July 20. Owen O’Riordan, Commissioner of Public Works, had been serving as Acting City Manager since July 6.
Before becoming City Manager, Mr. Huang was a non-profit leader with a successful record of organizational transformation, operational excellence, and solving difficult problems. Mr. Huang recently served as the Executive Director of Boston Medical Center (BMC) Hospital Clinical Operations. During his career, he also served in various positions for the BMC Hospital, including Chief Transformation Officer and Senior Director - Population Health Analytics for the BMC Health Plan, Senior Director of Clinical Operations, Director of Strategy, and Senior Project Manager. Mr. Huang has a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard University.
Mr. Huang has been a Cambridge resident for over 15 years and has three children in the Cambridge Public School system.
