Throughout Summer 2018, the Community Development Department hosted 41 MSYEP high school employees who engaged the Cambridge community about CDD's programs and services. Seven teams of students worked on the following initiatives:

  • Team Transportation Transformers signed up high school students for Bluebikes memberships with a 75% student discount! They are continuing to sign up more teenagers even after the conclusion of the MSYEP program.
  • Team Connect Cambridge worked on creating a priority bus lane to reduce bus traffic during rush hour!
  • Team 2 Lanes worked on piloting a separated bike lane for PARK(ing) Day!
  • Team Cambridge Energy Alliance distributed information about reducing energy waste and signed up 10% more residents for the 100% renewable energy plan!
  • Team Cam Tran presented a proposal to Google for how Google Maps can be improved to maximize bike comfort and safety!
  • Team Compost informed over 1000 community members about composting in Cambridge and gave out over 450 rolls of compost bags!

CDD's teams all did amazing work this summer! Each intern worked at minimum 6 outreach events (many worked more) and gained experience talking to community members. During these events our teams gave out thousands of flyers and increased community knowledge of public transit services and safe sustainable community options.

We had an incredibly productive summer and were lucky to host so many outstanding interns!
