On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, 2 alarms were ordered, Box 2-281, for the fire at 259 Broadway, a 3 story, wood-frame multiple residence. Arriving with heavy fire on floor 3, fire companies quickly evacuated residents, established water supplies, protected exposure properties, contained, and extinguished the fire. All residents were evacuated without injury however several firefighters received non-life-threatening injuries during the firefighting operations. Two cats were rescued, were given oxygen and treated by EMS and firefighters but sadly one cat did not survive.
Nine residents were displaced by the fire.
The time of the initial alarm was 1128 a.m. Group 1 was on duty.
Cambridge Police, Professional Ambulance, Cambridge Animal Commission, Cambridge Inspectional Services, American Red Cross, & Boston Sparks rehab unit assisted on scene.
