The Major Reconstruction of Fire Headquarters is in progress

The total renovation of the Fire Headquarters building at 491 Broadway continues.

Photos from June 3, 2024 show the progress of the interior demo stage of the apparatus floor, basement, and the former Fire Alarm wing at 489 Broadway. The second and third floors have previously been demoed and cleaned out.
This building was originally occupied in February of 1934.

Fire Headquarters was the home of Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, & the Dive Rescue Unit, as well as the Administrative Offices, Fire Prevention, and Tech Services. These units have been relocated during the reconstruction. Once the project is completed, all will move back into this building.
