Working Fire Box 45-1581 - 75 Cambridge Parkway - December 29, 2024

On Sunday evening, December 29th, just after 930, a "Working Fire" was ordered for a fire in an apartment on floor 8 of the hi-rise, residential building at 75 Cambridge Parkway. The initial alarm was reported to the Cambridge Emergency Commmuications office via the automatic alarm system.

The smoky fire was quickly contained to a mattress in one apartment. Engine 3 operated their 2 1/2" hi-rise hose line from the standpipe while Engine 2 ran a backup line & Engine 5 ran a supplementary dry line to the FDC (Fire Department Connection). Firefighters from ladder companies, the squads, & Rescue 1 overhauled, ventilated smoke from floor 8 and the floors above, and checked for water damage on lower floors.

Most residents sheltered in place until the firefighting operations were completed. Firefigthers metered the atmosphere & checked residents on the various floors. One resident was transported by ProEMS for non-life-threatening injury evaluation.

The cause was under investigation.

Approximately 35 firefighters from 4 engines, 3 ladders, 3 squads, & Rescue 1 worked at the fire. A Somerville Engine and Ladder covered in Cambridge during the fire.

Group 1 was on duty.

Thank you as always to the staff of Cambridge Emergency Communications, as well as Cambridge Police, State Police, and Cambridge Inspectional Services for the assistance.
