Happy 193rd Birthday to the Cambridge Fire Department!

 

The Cambridge Fire Department was established by an act of the Massachusetts State Legislature on March 17, 1832. Initially the Fire Department complement was authorized at 1 chief engineer, 12 engineers, as well as "enginemen, hosemen, and hook and ladder men."

 

We celebrate 193 years of professionalism, bravery, & service to our commuinity.

Prior to 1832, the city (a town at that time) was protected by private & volunteer companies.
