The City of Cambridge Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department will increase parking ticket fines for the categories listed below on July 1. Fine amounts in two public safety categories, Loading Zone and No Stopping, are being raised from $30 to $40:
- Loading zone violations are significant because they often result in travel lanes and bike lanes being blocked when trucks cannot park in loading zones. This double-parking forces vehicles to the wrong side of the road and endangers all road users.
- Locations are marked No Stopping when parking would result in dangers to the safety of the public resulting from vehicles blocking site lines, parking too close to intersections and at other locations resulting in danger to everyone who uses Cambridge roads.
For consistency, several other types of fines increasing from $20 to $25 to establish a new minimum fine of $25 for all violations.
