Many Helping Hands MLK Day of Service Volunteers

Many Helping Hands 365 is organizing a Cambridge day of service Monday, Jan. 20, from 2-5 p.m., in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. Join hundreds of other volunteers in hands on service projects that will touch the lives of thousands in need in Cambridge. Make fleece scarves and blankets for homeless children, teens and adults; make Valentines for shut-in elders and veterans; make activity kits for kids waiting in hospital emergency rooms; make bookmarks for children and adults in literacy programs; sort donated food, children’s books and winter clothing for people in need.

Many Helping Hands (MHH) formed in late 2010 to host the 1st annual MLK Day of Service event in Cambridge in 2011. The event doubled in size in 2012 and grew to over 1,300 participants in 2013. The event kicks off Monday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m., at Cambridge City Hall, 795 Mass. Ave. and takes place in a few locations around Central Square, including the Citywide Senior Center and the YWCA. Corporate partners also host satellite service locations and activities.

Don’t come empty handed! Bring a can of food, a children’s book or a gently used item of winter clothing.

See more or register for the 2014 MLK Day of Service here.  Visit MHH MLK Day of Service on Facebook for pictures and stories from previous events.

In addition to providing an opportunity for people of all ages to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King through personal volunteerism, our aim is to raise public awareness of the year-round needs in our community.
