The City of Cambridge has again received a 100% score from the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (HRC MEI) for its leadership in equality for LGBTQ+ residents, employees, and visitors.
Cambridge’s scorecard (PDF) and the full national report (PDF) are available for download.
The MEI scorecard examines a range of factors pertaining to:
- cities’ non-discrimination laws,
- the municipality as an employer,
- municipal services,
- law enforcement, and
- the municipality’s relationship with its LGBTQ+ community.
Through its 100% score, Cambridge’s efforts have been recognized as among the most effective in the country.
The MEI rated 506 cities including the 50 state capitals, the 200 largest cities in the United States, the five largest cities or municipalities in each state, the cities home to the state’s two largest public universities, municipalities that have high proportions of same-sex couples and 98 cities selected by HRC and Equality Federation state group members and supporters. It assesses each city on 44 criteria.
