The State 911 Department advises that the nationwide system issues that caused sporadic 911 outages throughout the day have been corrected, at least with respect to Massachusetts. Further, testing of the State 911 system confirms that our system is operational and that emergency calls to 9-1-1 are being routed to local and regional dispatch centers.
Residents are reminded to NOT call 911 or local 10-digit emergency number to test functionality. Please ONLY call if you need emergency services.
Original Message (12/28, 1PM): Please note that a nationwide outage affecting CenturyLink, an Internet communications company, is impacting wireline and wireless 911 call capability in various parts of the country. Massachusetts is believed to be impacted. In the event that there is an issue when calling 911 for emergency services (Police, Fire or EMS) via a cell phone or landline, residents are asked to contact the 7- digit Cambridge Emergency line at 617-499-9924 or the business line directly at 617-349-3300.
