City of Cambridge Halloween Events and Important Safety Tips

The Halloween season offers a variety of fun events for children, youth, and families across the City of Cambridge. Various city departments will be sponsoring a series of Halloween events in Cambridge between October 25 -31, 2024.

Cambridge Police Assisting at Inmanween, Inman Square, Cambridge
Friday, October 25, 4 p.m. 

Arts and Crafts and fall festivities in the Square starting at 4 p.m.;  outdoor movies at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Create a Huggable Monstrosity, O’Neill Branch Library, 70 Rindge Avenue, Cambridge
Sunday, October 26, 2-3:30 p.m.

Come to the O'Neill Branch to sew a "huggable monstrosity" - a loveable but terrifying toy! This project is open to children and families who have some experience hand sewing.

Pajama/Costume Story Time, O’Neill Branch Library, 70 Rindge Avenue, Cambridge
Tuesday, October 29, 6:45 -7:30 p.m.

We invite children and their grown-ups to join us for 20-25 minutes of fun and scary songs and stories for a late October treat! Feel free to wear your favorite cozy pajamas or a scary or fun costume! Pajama Story Time is presented by the Cambridge Public Library and the Center for Families.

Vampire Orienteering, Danehy Park, 166 New Street, Cambridge
Wednesday, October 30, 6:15-9 p.m.

Sponsored by the City of Cambridge, join Navigations Games for a night of Halloween fun! Teamsof 2-4 people will travel the park after dark looking for checkpoints using a map. The first team to find all of the checkpoints without being caught by the vampires wins. Bring a flashlight, wear a costume if you want, and enjoy candy! Trick or Treat on City Hall Lawn, Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge
Thursday, October 31, 3-5 p.m.

Put on your best costume and join the Mayor’s Office, the City Manager’s Office, Cambridge Police, Cambridge Fire, and other City Departments for candy, pumpkin painting, other arts and crafts, and more Halloween Fun. Feel free to attend for as long as you'd like and then continue trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.

Cambridge Police Department Open House, Community Room,125 Sixth Street, Cambridge
Thursday, October 31, 4-6 p.m. 

Stop by the Cambridge Police Department Community Room for treats on Halloween from 4 p.m. – 6. p.m.

Additionally, on Halloween, Tuesday, October 31, Cambridge Police Officers will be out in various areas of the City engaging with people in the community who are out trick or treating.

Halloween Open Houses at Most Cambridge Fire Houses (Except Headquarters, 491 Broadway, which is closed for reconstruction)
Thursday, October 31, 4-6 p.m.

All are welcome to drop in and visit with the firefighters and check out the apparatus, tools, and equipment. Kids are invited to wear their costumes. Candy donated by Cambridge Brands will be distributed to visitors. Glow sticks will also be distributed and the first 30 children to visit each fire house will receive a coupon for 1 scoop (kid size) of ice cream from JP Licks. Please keep in mind that fire companies are in service during the Open House and may have to respond to an emergency call.

Trick or Treat Prep Time, Central Square Branch Library, 45 Pearl Street, Cambridge
Thursday, October 31, 4-6 p.m. 

Join us for a drop-in Halloween celebration with stories, crafts, and treats. Costumes are encouraged!  This program is for children and their caregivers.

Halloween Safety Tips
For general Halloween safety, all kids are reminded to wear reflective colors, carry a flashlight when it gets dark, and use extra caution crossing streets. Young children should be accompanied by an adult or a responsible older child. When wearing a costume, watch for trip hazards, especially on stairs. Allow plenty of clearance if passing a heat source or open flame when in costume. Open flames should never be used as Halloween decorations or costumes. Any treats given to kids should be checked out by an adult.
