As of July 1, 2021, the utility moratorium put in place by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts during the COVID-19 pandemic will end. Utility customers who have an overdue balance on their natural gas or electric account, may potentially have their service disconnected after July 1.
In observance of the Fourth of July Independence Day holiday, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Monday, July 5 and curbside collection of trash, recycling, compost and yard waste will be suspended, and one day behind for the rest of the week.
Beginning Thursday, July 1, the City of Cambridge will offer free COVID-19 testing one day per week on Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. inside the CambridgeSide Mall. No appointment is needed. Thursday testing at the CambridgeSide Mall will no longer be drive-through testing by motor vehicle but will become a walk-in testing site without appointments inside the CambridgeSide Mall on the 2nd Floor above the Food Court. The current drive-through testing in the garage will shut down.

Hot weather and extreme heat can cause serious illness and can even be life-threatening. During heat waves, Cambridge Police Officers will distribute cold bottles of water to residents in need while they are out on patrol.
Extreme heat is a prolonged period of very hot weather, which may include high humidity. In Massachusetts, a “heat wave” is usually defined as a period of three or more consecutive days above 90ºF (Fahrenheit).
