Total Cost: $155,000
Location: Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and near McCrehan Pool
Short Description: Install new covered bike parking at CRLS making biking easier for students and teachers; and also at McCrehan Pool which is popular with families during the summer but lacks enough standard bike racks.
Long Description:
More than 300 students and teachers bike to school regularly, and there is a need for more bike parking. Covered bike parking at CRLS would create additional space for students and teachers to lock up their bikes and protect them from the harsh New England elements.
The McCrehan Memorial Pool, situated near the Minuteman Bike Path, is a popular DCR pool providing relief to families during hot summer days. However, there is only one bike rack on DCR property to meet the demand. Families end up locking their bikes on the chain link fence nearby. The proposal is to add five additional standard bike racks to Cambridge property nearby.
Encouraging and supporting cycling also aligns with the Net Zero Action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create climate sustainability, as well as supporting the Cambridge Bicycle Plan’s “Bikeable Future.”
