Murals to Inspire Cambridge Youth

Committee: Parks & Recreation

Cost: $75,000

Location: 2-3 locations citywide

Short Description: While Cambridge is enriched by individuals studying or working in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) fields, there are many young people who do not have role models who look, talk, or live like them.

Long Description:
In order to promote a more diverse and inclusive generation of people in STEAM and recognize Cambridge's leadership role, the City will commission artwork or portraits of women and minorities (race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, etc.) in STEAM and install them in widely viewed, public areas near schools with easy-to-read descriptions and explanations of their contributions. These pieces of work would serve to enhance the landscape of the city, remind Cambridge residents of the contributions of women and minorities to society, and inspire young people to make the world a better place.
