Help us keep Cambridge clean and safe by following these tips for waste collection

Zero Waste Cambridge

In 2008, the City set a goal of reducing trash 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. As of 2022, we have reduced trash by 32%. The City has developed a Zero Waste Master Plan to develop strategies to further reduce waste while maintaining high quality services, maximize efficiency, protect employee health and safety, reduce GHG emissions and reduce costs. You can help us achieve our goals by choosing to reduce and reuse, sorting waste properly, and staying tuned to the latest info in our monthly recycling newsletter.

Additional Information

All curbside carts, barrels and bins can be placed out at the curb after 6PM the night before collection or by 7AM on collection day. Trash in plastic bags may only be placed out at the curb on the morning of collection day, not the night before. All receptacles must be removed from the curb by 6PM on the day of collection.

If you have a disability that makes it difficult for you to wait until 6PM on the day before your collection day to bring your trash and recycling barrels to the curb, please contact Commission for Persons with Disabilities
