4-1-25 Special Update: On April 1, 2025, the Traffic, Parking, + Transportation Department became the Department of Transportation, merging with the Community Development Department’s Transportation Planning Division . This reorganization will expand cross-departmental collaboration and allow the City to pursue new opportunities to improve safety and mobility for all.

The Department of Transportation (formerly known as the Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department) oversees public parking and traffic operations, including pavement markings, crosswalks and bicycle lanes, operation of traffic signals, traffic study reviews, and permitting street obstructions and street closings. The department also oversees the Resident Permit Program. Additionally, the Department of Transportation works with the Transportation Planning Division (formerly at Community Development) in planning, reviewing, and developing proposals to improve the City’s infrastructure and encourages walking, bicycling and using transit.

Please be advised of traffic impacts from the Bionic 5K and 1 mile road race on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
The installation will introduce a new lane configuration designed to improve safety between Prospect St and Oak St
Residents who have not already renewed online or in-person should renew their parking permit at the City of Cambridge's Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department in the City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway.
Road closures include Sidney St from Franklin St to Pacific St, from 9:00-10:30 a.m., and Franklin St, from Brookline St to Sidney St from 9:15-10:30 a.m.
