The mission of Cambridge Recreation, a division of the City's Department of Human Service Programs, is to encourage Cambridge residents of all ages, identities and abilities to invest in their health, wellbeing and personal growth, making meaningful connections along the way. 

From managing year-round youth athletic leagues and recreational programming, hosting family-friendly movie nights, concerts, and events in the summer, offering programming that builds skillsets and empowers community members, and working with community partners to coordinate athletic and recreational use of our city's athletic fields, and much more, our Recreation division provides access to a wide range of high-quality and affordable recreational opportunities.

Danehy Park

Mayor Thomas W. Danehy Park is a popular, 50-acre park located in north Cambridge. For more than 30 years, residents and visitors have enjoyed the park’s athletic fields, walking paths, playgrounds, public art, dog park, and community events. Danehy Park also includes the Louis A. DePasquale Playground, the first playground in Cambridge to fully incorporate universal design across play features.

Recreation staff oversee the management and operations of Danehy Park, in coordination with the Department of Public Works, the Community Development Department, and other agencies. We welcome visitors to enjoy the wide range of recreational activities that Danehy Park has to offer!

Fresh Pond Golf Course

Fresh Pond Golf Course, also known as the Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr. Municipal Golf Course, is a beautiful and challenging 9-hole course, overseen by the Department of Human Service Programs’ Recreation Division.

Located in West Cambridge, adjacent to Fresh Pond Reservoir, it offers golfers beautiful views of local plants and wildlife mid-March through mid-December. During winter months, the community can enjoy walking, skating, sledding, cross-country skiing, and more activities on the sprawling fairway.
