On November 6, DHSP staff presented an afterschool update to the Human Services & Veterans Committee. The presentation gave an overview of enrollment data for 2024-2025 DHSP Afterschool Programs.

The presentation also provided an update on the Caregiver Council for DHSP and the Out-of-SchoolTime (OST) Expansion Study led by the Agenda for Children and consultant WithInsight.
DHSP provided a data update on the 2024-2025 DHSP Afterschool Program Lottery as of August 16, 2024. 78% of applicants received an offer for DHSP afterschool care in the 2024-25 school year, with 92% of those offers receiving their first-choice placement. The lottery continues to prioritize low-income applicants. Both income groups — priority and general — have high offer rates: 87% for priority applicants and 73% for general applicants.

The final data update for the 2023-2024 DHSP Afterschool Programs Lottery. During this lottery cycle, we extended offers to 1,869 applicants, about 80% of the total applicant pool. Approximately 30% of total placements were children from low-income households.
